Pre-production for conducting an interview.

When planning an interview to conduct there are many things I had to consider in the pre production process of it. I had to consider a suitable subject for the interview, Make a time plan to work to, find a person to interview, think of appropriate questions for the subject, equipment, find a location to conduct the interview and record the interview.

When i was briefed i was told to do my interview based on anything to do with college. I had a choice in which part of college i would focus on. I chose to do my interview on one person and base it on why they chose the course they did, where would they like to go with it and their opinion on a comparison between school and college and which do they prefer.

I had to create a time plan to work to for this task, this is so i could manage the things i needed to get done. I used Google Calendar for my plan as i could rearrange dates if I needed to. I had to rearrange my interview date as my interviewee was off sick so I contacted him and rearranged a new date to conduct the interview on. Here is a copy of my time plan calendar:

I had to choose a person to interview. I wanted someone who was a first year student and had come straight from school. This is because I wanted their decision to come to college and do the course they’re on to be their first choice. Another reason for this is because I want their memory of school to still be fresh in their mind so they can identify the change between college and school.

I had to think of appropriate questions to ask my interviewee. I had to design my questions with the reader in mind. My target audience is people who want to become college students. My questions had to draw the reader in and inform them on common things I thought they would like to know about the college. These are the questions i thought of for my interview:

How did you find your college course?

Why did you choose the course you are doing?

What would you like to do once the course in over?

Do you prefer school or college?

What was the first thing you noticed that was different to college than school other than non-uniform?

What do you do on your breaks?

Would you like there to be more entertainment facilities?

The equipments I used for this task was a notepad and pen to record the interview and a Mac to write it up on my word press blog.

I had to find a location to conduct my interview. Somewhere quiet with seating. I chose the class room on a break time so no one else was in the room when I conducted the interview.

Once I had conducted the interview i had to record it on my word press blog. I had my interview written up in my notepad so I used that to copy the interview to my word press. I did this in my professional practice time.

These were the answers to my interview questions:

How did you find your college course? A connections meeting and looked through the prospectus and found this journalism course.

Why did you choose the course you are doing? Because i want a job when im older that ill enjoy.

What would you like to do once the course in over? I want to become a sports journalist.

Do you prefer school or college? College.

What was the first thing you noticed that was different to college than school other than non-uniform? More laid back. Treated with a lot more maturity. More independence.

What do you do on your breaks? Play ping pong.

Would you like there to be more entertainment facilities? Yes, more than one ping pong table.
